The condition sine qua non to enjoy these benefits is to have the status of tax resident. Since the country has signed a double taxation agreement with 43 countries, including France, this status gives rise to a number of tax advantages:
- Income tax for both individuals and businesses is harmonized at 15%, and is paid in the country of tax residence,

- Dividends and other income on capital are exempt from tax.

The fiscal year of Mauritius begins on July 1 of each year and ends on June 30 of the following year.
